Surveyor-General Victoria led the Victorian Bushfires Surveying Taskforce, which in 2009 concluded the enormous task of securing survey marks and monuments to assist with the reinstatement of property boundaries affected or destroyed by the February 2009 bushfires.
The work was performed by a strong contingent of volunteers, including surveying firms and individual surveyors, and enabled efficient and economical property boundary surveys in fire-affected areas.
At the 2010 International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Congress, held in Sydney in April, a paper entitled Surveying Response to the Victorian Bushfires of February 2009 was presented on behalf of Victoria by Eddie Cichocki, who represented Surveyor-General Victoria.

Register of Survey Firms and cluster maps
The Register of Survey Firms is a list of companies available to perform property boundary surveys in fire-affected areas on a fee-for-service basis.
The areas have been grouped in clusters identified as A, B, C, D and E (see Cluster Map PDF below) and each firm has indicated the cluster or clusters in which they are prepared to work.
Prior to proceeding with a survey, residents are encouraged to talk to a licensed surveyor from the Register of Survey Firms to determine whether a survey of their property boundaries is necessary.
