Suburb boundaries

Under the Geographic Place Names Act 1998, local councils are responsible for determining suburb, town and rural district names and boundaries within their municipality, following appropriate consultation with essential service organisations and the community, town and rural district names and boundaries.
The local council notifies the Registrar of Geographic Names of new or altered names and boundaries for inclusion in the state's official Register of Geographic Names (VICNAMES).
The Registrar of Geographic Names holds the original plans for Victoria. These plans are available for inspection at the Registrar’s office at Level 17, 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne. For further information phone (+61 3) 8636 2525. Office hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
