The Department of Sustainability and Environment has a rich source of maps including, paper maps and map books. Digital maps can be viewed on-line, including, property, topographic and various environmental themes. Some of these maps can be purchased in either digital or print formats.

Fundamentals of Mapping - a comprehensive general overview of maps, mapping, cartography and map production has been produced by the Intergovernmental Committee on Survey and Mapping (ICSM).

Vicmap Topographic Maps
Vicmap Topographic- Hardcopy Maps are available statewide at 1:50 000, with 1:100 000, 1:25 000 and Specials available over selected areas. These maps are updated every three to five years using authoritative government data. The Vicmap 1:30 000 Maps Online are available online in A3 or A4, portrait or landscape format. Downloadable as georeferenced PDFs, Vicmap 1:30 000 Maps Online can be used on your handheld device..

Topographic maps display natural and constructed features on the ground. These include contours, rivers, streams, waterfalls, lakes, vegetation, roads, cliffs, localities, park boundaries, shipwrecks.
