Hume - securing a sustainable environment for the future
Like all Victorian communities, the Hume North East region has a critical role to play in achieving our goal of becoming Australia’s first sustainable State.
The Hume North East region covers Mt Hotham, Mount Buller and Falls Creek through to the Goulburn and Murray Valleys. The Region stretches from Corryong and Barmah in the North to Marysville and Wallan in the South and includes Wodonga, Wangaratta, Alexandra, Mansfield, Seymour and Broadford.
What will happen in the Hume North East region?
The following initiatives will be funded to boost sustainability in the Hume North East region’s households, local Councils, businesses and industries.
Through Our Environment, Our Future the Victorian Government will:

Protect the North East’s heritage rivers under landmark legislation that protects them from being dammed including:
- Mitta Mitta River Heritage Area
- Ovens River Heritage Area
- Howqua River Heritage Area

Invest in local projects in the Hume North East region through the Sustainability Fund. These projects are:
