  • River Red Gum Adaptive Management Scientific Advisory Committee - The Department of Environment and Primary Industries  is working with the NSW Government and specialists from Australian universities to develop a strategy to manage River Red Gum forests and promote the persistence of indigenous flora and fauna in a way which is cost-effective, defensible and adaptable.

More than 100,000 hectares of River Red Gum parks were established in the NSW Riverina in July 2010, after an assessment of River Red Gum forests in the area by the Natural Resources Commission.  About 150,000 hectares of River Red Gum reserves were also gazetted in Victoria at the same time, following an investigation by the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council.

To provide advice about how best to develop an adaptive management strategy for the new parks and reserves, the River Red Gum Adaptive Management Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) was established by the Victorian Department of Environment and Primary Industries and the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. The SAC includes external specialists in wetland and landscape ecology, forest management, hydrology, flora, fauna and decision analysis.

The SAC provides quality-assured scientific advice to government on the management of River Red Gum forests, is available on the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage website.
