The State Aircraft Unit coordinates the management of the following resources for fire and land use management across Victoria:

The State Fleet managed by the SAU comprised of 32 aircraft in the 2006-07 fire season:

  • Aircraft provided with the financial assistance of the Commonwealth

    In addition to the management and coordination of aircraft, the SAU supports the development and utilisation of specialist aviation equipment in the State Fleet for a wide range of land and fire management activities.

    The SAU maintains a network of 15 fire bombing bases that consist of an airstrip, fuel supply, water supply, and equipment for mixing and storing fire retardant. In addition to these fixed retardant bases, a number of mobile retardant mixers are located across the state for deployment to a fire incident.
