Fire Operations Plans - Approved
Fire Operations Plans outline where DEPI and Parks Victoria intend to carry out fire prevention and preparedness activities on Victoria’s public land over the next three years. These plans activities include planned burning, slashing, mowing and clearing works, creating and maintaining fuel breaks and carrying out fire infrastructure maintenance.
The current Fire Operations Plans for 2012/13-2014/15 have been finalised and can be viewed by;- downloading the proposed plans and maps for each DEPI District from the table below
- viewing each proposed burn on our interactive map
- visiting your local DEPI or Parks Victoria office.
Each year the plans are updated with the latest local information to help us work out what, where and how often to burn. The plans published below remain current until updated plans are published in October 2013 following the annual review process.
We develop the plans in consultation with community members, local councils, Melbourne Water, forest managers, CFA, wineries, tourism boards, flora and fauna specialists and any other parties who register their interest.
DEPI and Parks Victoria welcome feedback all year round and we encourage you to have input into the planning process.
"Planned area" means the area that is available for treating with planned burning if the weather and conditions are right. The "planned area" figures shown in the table below are for planning purposes only and are not the state or regional delivery targets.
DEPI's planned burning target for 2012/13 is 250,000 hectares across the state. The total "planned area" in the Fire Operations Plans is greater than 250,000 hectares to allow DEPI flexibility as we respond to seasonal conditions.

2012/13-2014/15 Fire Operations Plans and maps
For details of approved burns in each DEPI fire district, including burn areas and locations, see documents in the table below or use our interactive map.
Please note, the Fire Operations plans are designed to be flexible, allowing the timing of proposed activities over the three year period to change in response to weather and other conditions. This means burns may be carried out in a different year than indicated in the plan.
The map shows all approved planned burns and mechanical works for 2012/13-2014/15.

Note - Fire Management Zones around settlements and assets in the Otway District (Asset Protection Zone and Bushfire Moderation Zone) have been the subject of the Otway pilot project. The objective of this pilot has been to apply latest science and modelling tools across the landscape to drive implementation of sophisticated on-ground bushfire risk management strategies. Strategies include application of planned burning and other fuel management techniques in arcs around coastal settlements to reduce potential for ember attack. |
