Firefighting Employment with DSE
The following links contain information about firefighting employment with the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) in Victoria, Australia.
DSE have access to approximately 1400 trained firefighters across Victoria. Most of these are DSE or Parks Victoria staff normally engaged in other duties such as park/forest rangers, work crew and office staff.
During the fire season several hundred Project Firefighters are also employed. During a bushfire, these firefighters act in roles ranging from support staff to on-ground firefighters. DSE ensures that all its firefighters are adequately trained and have this competency recognised prior to their involvement in firefighting operations.
DSE also uses a network of contractors and private plant operators around the state to assist fighting fires.
