The Department of Sustainability and Environment directly and indirectly manages the most diverse collection of historic places in Victoria, from historic mining and saw mill sites in State forest, to cattlemen's huts in national parks, and historic court houses in our cities and towns.

Historic places help us to understand and appreciate the human story. They provide a tangible link to our history. They contribute to a sense that, as a society, we share a material heritage which is part of our cultural identity.

The Department of Sustainability and Environment manages a great outdoor museum. For more information please select from the topic links in the column at the left of the page.
