The Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) is responsible for land-use planning and environment assessment in Victoria. This includes managing the regulatory framework and providing advice on planning policy, urban design and strategic planning, as well as information on land development and forecasting.

New bushfire provisions for public buildings
Ministerial Direction No. 3 - Bushfire Provisions for Buildings of a Public Nature has been approved and comes into effect on 1 February 2010. It applies to all construction undertaken by Victorian Government departments and agencies.

Planning Activity in Victoria 2008-09 Report
The 2008-09 Planning Permit Activity Report is now available. The report is produced annually in partnership with the Municipal Association of Victoria and all Victorian councils and provides a valuable oversight of the volume and type of planning permit applications that are made across Victoria every year.

Accessible Housing - Regulatory Impact Statement released for comment
A Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) has been prepared to examine approaches to increase the supply of accessible housing in Victoria. Submissions are now being sought on the content of the RIS which proposes a variation to the Building Code of Australia.

Modernising Victoria's Planning Act: Draft Bill for comment
The draft Planning and Environment Amendment (General) Bill 2009 has been released for public comment. It sets out the proposed amendments to the Planning and Environment Act 1987. Comments on the draft Bill must be made in writing by Friday 12 February 2010.
