The Department of Sustainability and Environment manages fire on Victoria's 7.6 million hectares of public land, or roughly one third of the State. This includes reducing the risk of fire, containing outbreaks and managing environmental effects. Read more about DSE's role in fire management

What's New
  • Township Protection Plans
    Township Protection Plans have been developed for 52 identified high risk bushfire locations in Victoria. Visit CFA's website to download a community information map for any of the locations.
  • Traffic management points
    During some fire situations, traffic into an area where fire is occurring may be restricted and/or regulated. Details of Traffic Management Points can be found on the Victoria Police website.

  • Draft local Fire Management Plan - open for consultation
    Contribute to the local Fire Management Plan for the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park and Waratah Bay – Shallow Inlet Coastal Reserve in Gippsland. Contributions close Monday 12 April 2010.
  • Emergency Alert goes live
    Emergency Alert, the new national telephone based emergency warning system went live on 1 December. Emergency Alert can alert communities to emergencies via a voice message on landline telephones based on the location of the handset, and a text message on mobiles based on the subscribers’ billing address.
