Marine Waters

Victoria’s marine waters cover some 10,000 square kilometres, extending 3 nautical miles offshore. They include waters adjacent to the open ocean and Victoria’s bays, inlets and estuaries.

They include towering kelp forests, seagrass meadows and an amazing variety of fish, sponges and other animals of many colours and shapes from tiny organisms to large sea mammals.

These waters and the adjacent foreshore are equally important for the economic opportunities they provide, supporting tourism, fishing, shipping, ports and petroleum sectors and social opportunities that may be as simple as a walk on the beach or a swim.
