On Board - governance
Most of Victoria's environmental resources are managed by agencies that are established and operate under laws made by parliament. These agencies manage water, public land, and other natural resources on behalf of the Victorian government and are accountable through their minister to parliament. DSE supports and oversees these agencies on behalf of the responsible ministers. It is 'an extension of the minister'. On Board is the central place for governance information about DSE agencies. It offers board members and other interested readers information about governance requirements, governance guides and resources, the functions of DSE agencies, and board vacancies (expressions of interest). Unless otherwise specified, the information on On Board applies to all DSE agencies. For easier reading, the following terms are used:
- 'board' means the agency's governing body (e.g. board, committee, council, panel, advisory body, etc.)
- 'board member' means a member of the agency's governing body (including directors, board members, committee members, council members, panel members, etc.).
