Penguins need you: call for members of Phillip Island Nature Park Board

Expressions of interest open on 11 February for vacancies on the Phillip Island Nature Park Board of Management.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment’s (DSE) Executive Director Public Land Peter Watkinson said five positions, including the chairperson, are available from 5 September 2012.
“Phillip Island Nature Park is a world leader in ecotourism and wildlife research. Its attractions include the Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Centre, Churchill Island Heritage Farm and the Nobbies Centre,” Mr Watkinson said
“As a member of the board you would be responsible for the management, improvement, maintenance and control of 1,805 hectares of flora and fauna reserves and coastal lands across the Phillip Island Nature Park.
“We are seeking people who bring a range of skills and attributes relevant to the role of the Board and who reflect the composition of the Victorian community.”
The Board is established under the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978.
Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of high-level knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas: tourism; business management; finance and/or accountancy; conservation; natural resource management; scientific research; community engagement; and education and training.
Skills and experience in public entity governance and landscape planning will also be highly regarded.
In addition, the Chairperson is expected to demonstrate previous board level experience and strong leadership ability.
The Board generally meets on the last Thursday of the month for eight months of the year, and members are appointed for up to three years. Candidates other than executive level public sector employees may be entitled to remuneration for their service.
