Cann River DSE staff recognised for community safety commitment

18 January, 2012

DSE staff at the Cann River workcentre were recently presented with certificates of appreciation for their ongoing commitment to community safety by Superintendent Geoff Newby, on behalf of Victoria Police.

Supt. Newby said this was in recognition of their support and dedication to their community and partner agencies in emergency response and for their willingness to help out in areas other than fire management.

“The Cann River DSE team is exceptional in their commitment to their work and their community. They are always available to turn out and help others, whether it’s for emergencies or at community events. We wanted to show our appreciation for that assistance,” he said.

Cann River Fire and Operations Coordinator, James Pardew was also recognised individually for his tireless work in the Cann River community: his assistance and support on a range of community projects over the years and his ongoing commitment to emergency response.

“James is obviously passionate about his community and that’s demonstrated by the number of local projects he’s been involved in and the numerous occasions he has helped and supported local groups and individuals,” Supt. Newby said.

“We congratulate James and his DSE colleagues for their efforts in establishing and maintaining positive interagency partnerships and greater community safety for Cann River.”

James and the crew's ongoing support to community safety in Cann River for all hazards was well-documented and commended by Neil Comrie in his direct evidence to the Royal Commission, April 7 2010.
