Diversity (Inclusion) Action Plan 2009-2012
The department is committed to embracing and encouraging diversity among its staff and those of its statutory authorities, and providing services in an accessible and inclusive way either direct to the public or through portfolio authorities.
What is Diversity?
Diversity refers to the many characteristics that capture difference between people, including: disability, race, gender, age, culture, sexual orientation, religion and family / carer status.
Workplace diversity is about acknowledging differences and adapting work practices to create an inclusive environment in which our diverse skills, perspectives and backgrounds are valued.
Diversity goes beyond the concept of rectifying the disadvantage of target groups by emphasising the importance of an inclusive DSE culture and of valuing difference between individuals and communities. While we should aim to be inclusive in all our work, at times it may be necessary to tailor the engagement processes and activities to enable some communities or individuals to fully participate.
The DSE Diversity (Inclusion) Action Plan 2009 - 2012 is a key component in delivering this aim. The Action Plan adopts a comprehensive approach to addressing barriers to access, and equality for target groups identified in legislation or policy.

[PDF File - 692.2 KB]The Action Plan was endorsed by the Department’s People Committee, which are a policy development and decision making body which form part of the overarching governance of DSE. Reporting on actions and milestones / deliverables / targets outlined in the action plan will be provided periodically to the people committee.
