Social media
Content
The Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) social media accounts are managed by the DEPI Online Communications team, on behalf of the Communications Branch.
We may use some automation tools; such as tools which generate tweets/posts from RSS feeds, but intend to maintain a human element to these accounts.
If you follow or subscribe to any of DEPI’s social media accounts, you can expect between 2-8 tweets or posts per week, and/or 1-4 videos per month, covering some or all of the following:
- Alerts about new content on our websites such as news, video, and audio uploads.
- Alerts to upcoming events
- Updates on DEPI run or supported campaigns.
Availability
DEPI updates and monitors its social media accounts during office hours, Monday to Friday.
Twitter, Facebook and YouTube may occasionally be unavailable and DEPI accepts no responsibility for lack of service due to downtime.
Following on Twitter
If you follow @DEPI_Vic we will not automatically follow you back. This is to discourage the use of direct messaging, avoid spam handling, and so that you can easily identify other key Twitter users that we think are relevant to our role in who we follow. However, being followed by DEPI does not imply endorsement of any kind by the Victorian Government.
@Replies, Direct Messages, and Comments
We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and endeavour to join the conversation where possible. Whilst we will try to respond to any questions in a timely fashion, we may not be able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter. The Web Communications team reads all @replies and direct messages and ensures that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed on to the relevant people within DEPI.
Facebook users can now "like" one or all of our regional Facebook pages for localised updates. Occasional updates relevant to the entire state will be cross-posted on each Facebook page.

We retain the right to determine which comments violate our comments policy at our discretion. We also reserve the right to remove violations.
