Training
Community engagement is increasingly a ‘must have’ competency for anyone overseeing projects or programs that have an impact on the broader community, or require the involvement of many stakeholders for project success. It is integral to how government, and, consequently, how DSE works, and is considered a key to both project success and risk reduction.
The two day ‘fundamentals’ workshop leads seamlessly into further ‘advanced’ 1 day programmes offered by DSE Engagement and Partnership Team, which collectively make up the most comprehensive community engagement planning course being offered in Victoria.
Content
Community (and stakeholder) engagement is increasingly becoming a requirement for successful projects. It is also emerging as a discipline in its own right with a body of knowledge and particular areas of expertise. This course introduces participants to community engagement planning which provides practitioners an introduction to the discipline. Through participating in a rigorous ‘learning by doing’ course methodology, participants will gain experience in developing community engagement plans and be able to discern effective community engagement from "tokenistic community consultation". Participants will also be able to ensure that community engagement is much more than providing opportunities for the vocal minority.
Designed for
Project Managers and project team members who are looking to either brief or engage consultants or undertake for themselves a planned approach to their community consultation process around a specific project. The course should also be helpful for those who oversee or manage major planning strategies or projects that require wide community involvement.
