Warning of Obligations
The Firearms Act 1996 prohibits the use of firearms in certain locations or places. Hunters must comply with those controls. Hunters are personally responsible for informing themselves about any prohibited locations or places within the area shown on the maps. Because it is illegal to hunt deer in areas where deer hunting is prohibited, extra care should be taken to make sure that hunting takes place only within permitted areas.
The consequences for hunting in a closed area could result in the loss of your Game and Firearms Licences and the seizure and confiscation of your firearm, vehicle or other belongings used in the commission of an offence.

Some areas may be open to hunting, however, the use of firearms may be prohibited under the Firearms Act 1996. Some key features of the controls under the Firearms Act that you should be aware of are: it is illegal to discharge a firearm in a "populous" place (eg. picnic and camping areas, walking tracks) or to discharge a firearm on or over any area of public or private land where hunting is not permitted. It is also illegal to carry or discharge a loaded firearm from a public road or thoroughfare. This is not the full detail of the law. It is your responsibility to make yourself aware of your obligations.
Hunters should avoid hunting close to boundaries to ensure their actions do not put themselves or the safety of others at risk.
