Surveyor-General Victoria is leading the Victorian Bushfires Surveying Taskforce, which is coordinating the enormous task of securing survey marks and monuments that assist with the reinstatement of property boundaries affected or destroyed by the recent Victorian bushfires.

The taskforce is made up of representatives from the Office of Surveyor-General Victoria, Spatial Information Infrastructure, RMIT University, Association of Consulting Surveyors Victoria, Spatial Sciences Institute, Institution of Surveyors Victoria and Australian Spatial Information Business Association.

It also brings together a strong contingent of volunteers, including surveying firms and individual surveyors.

Guide to surveying areas affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires
The guide provides advice to surveyors who have volunteered their services to perform surveys in the bushfire areas to recover, reference and preserve survey marks and monuments. It includes important surveying and Occupational Health and Safety information.

Project areas
The taskforce has identified areas in the state for volunteer surveyors to perform recovery surveys to locate and reference significant survey marks and monuments. The location and project status of these can be found online at www.land.vic.gov.au/maps/bushfire

Register of Surveying Firms
The Register of Surveying Firms is a list of companies available to perform property boundary surveys on a fee-for-service basis in fire-affected areas.

The areas have been grouped in clusters identified as A, B, C, D and E (see Cluster Map PDF below) and each firm has indicated which cluster or clusters they are prepared to work in.

Prior to proceeding with a survey, residents are encouraged to utilise the free professional advisory service established by the taskforce to determine whether a survey is necessary. The service can be accessed by telephone on (03) 9326 9700.

Fire-affected community websites
A number of regional community websites have been set up to assist recovery in bushfire affected areas. The sites have been developed by .au Community Domains, a not-for-profit organisation that manages registration of community geographic domain names. It is expected that more sites will be developed in the coming months.
