Land Managed Under the National Parks Act
As at 30 June 2007 there were 132 areas with a total area of 3.301 million hectares managed under various provisions of the National Parks Act 1975. These comprise 116 areas on schedules to the Act:
- 40 national parks
- 3 Wilderness Parks
- 27 state parks
- 5 coastal parks
- 3 historic parks
- 1 nature conservation reserve
- 4 regional parks and Haining Farm
- 3 marine and coastal parks
- 2 marine parks
- 1 marine reserve
- 1 national heritage park
- 13 marine national parks
- 11 marine sanctuaries and
- 16 non-scheduled areas.
- 19 wilderness zones within 7 national parks
- 22 remote and natural areas within 12 national parks and
- 4 designated water supply catchment areas within 3 national parks.
