Urban Design around Rail Environments
Content
Changing pressures on cities and infrastructure provision have revealed a need to re-evaluate the way we design and manage urban environments, and in particular, the way intense urban areas and rail infrastructure are integrated. Developments interfacing rail corridors are typically subject to a range of amenity and design challenges that can be resolved by applying best design practice. Understanding the needs and impacts of rail infrastructure operations in activity centre design is important for urban development professionals and stakeholders.
This course examines key rail operational issues and describes potential building and urban design responses for locations adjacent to a rail environment. Areas covered include: the development process for private land use & building design adjacent to rail infrastructure; graffiti management; acoustics vibration and air quality; overview of rail operation, equipment protection and maintenance regimes.

Development professionals, architects, landscape and building designers, statutory and strategic planners, transport planners, place managers
