  • Local governments of the Transit Cities.
The Victorian Government has already invested millions of dollars in a range of Transit Cities projects. The 2008/09 Budget announced $51.9 million over fours years, towards urban improvements in Broadmeadows, Dandenong and Geelong.

This major investment includes:
  • Geelong: $24.5 million for improvements at the railway station precinct in Geelong and a new pedestrian link between the station and the new TAC building
  • Broadmeadows: $8.4million for design work that will lead to integrating the Broadmeadows Station with the town centre
  • Dandenong: $19 million for a new building for State Government agencies in central Dandenong providing greater accessibility.
This follows on from the 2007/08 State Budget which contributed $63.3 million towards urban improvement and revitalisation in central Footscray, Geelong, and Ringwood, which included:
  • Footscray: $52.1 million for the revitalisation of central Footscray including a modern pedestrian bridge at the station, an upgrade of main streets, facilitation of development around the station, and a new ‘one-stop planning shop’ for the marketing and development of central Footscray
  • Geelong: $5.8 million to acquire land in the Geelong station precinct to enable a future pedestrian link to the TAC building and the waterfront, as well as for detailed design and scoping works for the integration of the station and cultural precincts
  • Ringwood: $5.4 million for detailed design work in Ringwood which will provide a blueprint for integrating Eastland and the proposed town square across Maroondah Highway to the station precinct.
In addition, the 2006/07 Budget allocated $219 million to Transit Cities projects including:
  • $197 million over the next 15 years for the Revitalising Central Dandenong Transit City Project
