Bendigo: Transit Cities Program

Transit Cities is a major Victorian Government program that will create opportunities for people to live and work in the same area - reducing the need to commute and increase time spent with family and friends.

About Bendigo
Bendigo is an important location because:

  • It is the major commercial, retail, service and education centre for northern Victoria with an expanding residential population and business growth
  • The Victorian Government wants to make the most of its investment in the Regional Fast Rail link to Bendigo
Bendigo Transit City projects
Projects in Bendigo will encourage mixed-use development close to public transport. They will provide residents with easier access to services and help meet the growing demand for one and two-person housing. They include:
  • A $30,000 grant for the development of the Central Activities Area Plan, now adopted by council. The plan includes a proposal for the Railway Station-Bendigo Market-place precinct and strengthens links from this area with the core retail and business area
  • A $100,000 grant for the appointment of a Place Manager for Bendigo Central
