New planning guidelines to shape our future suburbs, 06 October 2009
New planning guidelines for Melbourne’s fastest-growing outer suburbs will help deliver more connected urban communities to local transport and local employment. The new guidelines for precinct Structure Planning are available from the Growth Areas Authority.

Proposed reforms to Victoria’s Planning Act - August 2009
Following 150 submissions to the discussion paper Modernising Victoria’s Planning Act (March 2009), five response papers have been released outlining proposed reforms to the Planning and Environment Act 1987. The review and modernisation of the Act aims to simplify current laws, remove redundant provisions and improve planning process timelines.

$77,000 for Werribee Riverbend project - August 2009
Wyndham City Council has received $77,000 through the Melbourne 2030 Expert Assistance Program (EAP) to help with preliminary planning of the Riverbend Precinct in Werribee City Centre. More information on planning at Wyndham City Council.

$200,000 grant provides new look streetscape for Springvale - August 2009
The Buckingham Avenue Redevelopment in Springvale will see improved safety, with better access to amenities and public transport, thanks to a $200,000 grant from the
Creating Better Places program. Such grants enable the Government to work with councils and communities to create more vital, attractive, sustainable and safe activity centres across Metropolitan Melbourne. More information on the City of Greater Dandenong website.

$40,000 for Ringwood urban heart - August 2009
An arts project has received $40,000 of Government funding to beautify
Ringwood Central Activities District and improve the amenity of the area in the lead-up to major construction works in central Ringwood. More information on the Maroondah City Council website.

Melbourne 2030: a planning update - Melbourne @ 5 million - December 2008
Melbourne 2030: a planning update Melbourne @ 5 million is the Victorian Government’s response to the recent analysis of the 2006 Census and Australian Bureau of Statistics information which projects an increase in population and household growth for the metropolitan area. This update has a strong focus on creating jobs and services in key Central Activities Districts and employment corridors that are closer to people’s homes. Melbourne 2030 Audit Complete: Government Releases - Planning for all of Melbourne - May 2008
The Government has released Planning for all of Melbourne. The report marks the completion of the Audit and was informed by the independent Audit Expert Group’s report. Retail Policy Review - September 2007
The principal aim of the Retail Policy Review will develop a 'whole of retailing' policy position for Victoria. Background papers are now available covering a range of retail related topics including a history of retailing in Melbourne, past policy settings, retailing futures and retail floorspace forecasts.


Expert Group Appointed for Melbourne 2030 Audit - August 2007
The Minister for Planning has announced the appointment of a four-member expert group to assist with the first five-yearly audit of Melbourne’s long-term planning strategy, Melbourne 2030. As part of the audit a submissions process has been included to take place in August 2007.

Creating Better Places Grants 2007-08 (Round 3) - June 2007
Round 3 will be opening for applications in June 2007. An information forum will be held mid-June 2007. Councils are encouraged to contact the DPCD Creating Better Places program managers to discuss possible applications.

The Urban Development Program (UDP) - 2007
One of the primary mechanisms for providing advice to Government about the supply, demand and adequacy of residential and industrial land across metropolitan Melbourne and the Geelong Region. The Urban Development Program 2006 Annual Report and new 2006 land supply data are now available on the website.


Regional Housing Statements - 2006
Regional Housing Statements provide a strategic framework for planning for the housing needs of each region to 2031. Statements have now been completed and adopted for each region.


Growth Areas Authority - September 2006
Rob Hulls, Minister for Planning, has announced the establishment of the new Growth Areas Authority (GAA), to guide development in the five growth areas identified in Melbourne 2030 (Casey-Cardinia, Hume, Melton-Caroline Springs, Whittlesea and Wyndham).

Sustainable Neighbourhoods - October 2006
The Sustainable Neighbourhoods package includes new measures for residential subdivisions (Claus 56) that deliver on Melbourne 2030 principles and will take effect in early October 2006.

Planning Red Tape Slashed - August 2006
The Cutting Red Tape in Planning report recommends that a large number of works be exempt from planning permits and other works be fast-tracked.
