Ringwood Central Activities Distirct
In the Melbourne @ 5 million policy document released in December 2008, Ringwood was announced as one of six Central Activities Districts (CADs). For more information please refer to the Melbourne @ 5 Million webpage.

About Ringwood

Ringwood is an important location because it:
  • is a key gateway between Melbourne’s CBD and the Yarra Valley
  • occupies a strategic location at a major transport hub with excellent connections to the metropolitan arterial road and rail network
  • serves a large catchment area in Melbourne’s outer east and supports a range of land uses and activities.
Ringwood Projects

Ringwood projects will create a pedestrian-friendly town centre connecting Ringwood Station and the nearby shopping centres - Eastland, Ringwood Market and Centro Ringwood.

In 2008 the Premier and Minister for Planning announced a further commitment of $39 million by the State Government to create a new urban heart for Ringwood in conjunction with Queensland Investment Corporation’s Eastland redevelopment. The investment will deliver:
  • completion of a new town square and urban heart for Ringwood;
  • improved safety around Maroondah Highway including a new pedestrian crossing;
  • a new bus interchange; and
  • further work with the council to attract additional investment in the area.

This $39 million investment builds on the $5.4 million delivered in the 2007/08 State Budget for detailed design work which will provide a blueprint for integrating Eastland and the proposed town square across Maroondah Highway to the station precinct.

Recent projects (funded partly or wholly through the Transit Cities program) include:
  • Eastern Gateway Precinct Plan - guidelines to achieve a shared vision for residential and commercial development and open space connections.
  • Lake to Creek Link - a streetscape upgrade to better link the Ringwood Lake and Mullum-Mullum Creek bike and walking trails.
  • Ringwood Street Streetscape Improvements - new street lighting and relocation of powerlines underground (Stage 1); new street trees, seating and paving (Stage 2).
More information is available from the Ringwood CAD contact or from the Maroondah City Council.
