Review of Policies - Yarra River Corridor: Punt Road to Burke Road
Purpose
The purpose of the Review of Policies - Yarra River Corridor: Punt Road to Burke Road project is to articulate a clear vision and to establish guidelines for the future development and protection of the river valley.
Status
- A reference group to help guide the project was established with representation from the relevant councils, Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water.
- Stakeholder workshops were held in July and October 2004. The summary notes of the workshop are available on the City of Yarra website.
Project Priority
This project is delivering on Initiative 5.7.4 in the Melbourne 2030 five year Implementation Program: Strengthen current policies and review the adequacy of planning controls relating to the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers to ensure the long-term protection of open space, conservation values – with the first priority being the Yarra River corridor between Punt Road and Burke Road.
Project Outcomes
- Clarity of vision for the Yarra River valley agreed by stakeholders and consistent with Melbourne 2030.
- Planning controls in place to ensure protection of the river valleys from inappropriate development, environmental degradation and loss of natural and cultural heritage assets.
Project Outputs
- Objectives for the river corridor between Punt Road and Burke Road.
- Urban design and landscape guidelines.
- Implementation plan, including recommended planning scheme changes.
