Dandenong Development Board
| The Dandenong Development Board is a statutory authority established by the State Government in October 2003 under the Dandenong Development Board Act 2003. The Act expires on 30 June 2010. The Board has an independent Chairperson and eight members representing:
The role of the Board is to work with stakeholder agencies to facilitate the revitalisation of central Dandenong and the Greater Dandenong region in accordance with the objectives of Melbourne 2030. Following its establishment, the Board worked to facilitate and support central Dandenong’s revitalisation as a Transit City. Projects addressed a wide range of strategic planning and capital works issues in Dandenong, including traffic management, retail and commercial revitalisation, urban design, and the development of a new road bridge and other infrastructure. With the State Government’s announcement in 2005-06 of the $290 million Revitalising Central Dandenong project (to be delivered by VicUrban in partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong) the Board has been able to refocus its attention toward its other objectives under the Dandenong Development Board Act. Those objectives focus on the improvement of social and economic outcomes for the community of the broader Greater Dandenong region. Social and economic issues addressed by the Board include community and social facility provision, employment, workforce skill and training needs, the impact of structural change in industry, residential development, community health and migrant service delivery.
