An Advisory Committee has been established to review the land use definitions, zoning controls and other related provisions applying to waste transfer stations and materials recycling facilities in planning schemes, and to make recommendations as appropriate to:
- Improve the definition and assessment of these facilities through planning schemes.
- Improve the zoning and other related controls to minimise the impacts of these facilities on nearby sensitive land uses and to facilitate proposals that meet appropriate requirements.
- Improve the mechanisms available to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements, including planning scheme controls, permits and their conditions.
- Simplify the preparation and assessment of planning permit applications for these facilities.
- Improve coordination between strategic waste management planning and provisions in planning schemes.
- The appropriateness of the existing definitions for waste transfer stations and materials recycling facilities.
- The appropriateness of the land use controls applying to these facilities.
- The effectiveness of the mechanisms available to ensure these facilities comply with regulatory requirements.
- Any other matter that the Advisory Committee considers will improve outcomes.
