Sydenham: Transit Cities Program
| Transit Cities is a major Victorian Government program that will create opportunities for people to live and work in the same area - reducing the need to commute and increase time spent with family and friends. About Sydenham Sydenham, a fast growing suburb in Melbourne’s outer west, is a key location and has the potential to become a vibrant, mixed use area with local employment opportunities. Sydenham features: Recent major developments include: Sydenham Transit City projects The Sydenham Transit City site is near Watergardens Shopping Centre and the Watergardens Railway Station. About 50 hectares of vacant land can be used for mixed-use development. The owner of Watergardens shopping complex, Queensland Investment Corporation, is creating a new town centre for Sydenham. This 25,000 square metre development will bridge the gap between the shopping complex and railway station. Features include improvements to the Taylors Creek area, creation of a main street with shops and cafes, and a new learning centre. Building commenced in 2006. A Master Plan is being prepared and will identify commercial and residential development options and consider transport and pedestrian access issues in the new town centre.
