Werribee: Transit Cities Program

Transit Cities is a major Victorian Government program that will create opportunities for people to live and work in the same area - reducing the need to commute and increase time spent with family and friends.

About Werribee
Werribee is an important location because it:
  • Is a major commerce and retail hub for the west
  • Is well connected by rail to Melbourne's CBD
  • Has considerable growth potential

    Werribee Transit City projects
The Transit Cities projects will create mixed-use, medium-density development around the railway stations of Werribee and Hoppers Crossing. The aim is to make the most of the railway stations, the rail corridor and surrounding areas, including the technology precinct, and:
  • Create one and two-person housing options
  • Improve links between the station and town centres
  • Create a more lively and commercially successful precinct
  • Provide better public transport facilities and infrastructure

    Recent major developments include:
  • Completion of Wedge Street Pocket Park with a contribution of $110,000 from the Department of Sustainability and Environment
  • Preparation of the Vision for Werribee Plains
  • Completion of the Werribee Transit Cities Report 2006
