Funding and Management – Transit Cities
Transit Cities is a Melbourne 2030 related program managed by the Department of Planning and Community Development in conjunction with:
- Department of Transport
- Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development
- VicUrban
- Local governments of the Transit Cities.
This major investment includes:
- Geelong: $24.5 million for improvements at the railway station precinct in Geelong and a new pedestrian link between the station and the new TAC building
- Broadmeadows: $8.4million for design work that will lead to integrating the Broadmeadows Station with the town centre
- Dandenong: $19 million for a new building for State Government agencies in central Dandenong providing greater accessibility.
- Footscray: $52.1 million for the revitalisation of central Footscray including a modern pedestrian bridge at the station, an upgrade of main streets, facilitation of development around the station, and a new ‘one-stop planning shop’ for the marketing and development of central Footscray
- Geelong: $5.8 million to acquire land in the Geelong station precinct to enable a future pedestrian link to the TAC building and the waterfront, as well as for detailed design and scoping works for the integration of the station and cultural precincts
- Ringwood: $5.4 million for detailed design work in Ringwood which will provide a blueprint for integrating Eastland and the proposed town square across Maroondah Highway to the station precinct.
- $197 million over the next 15 years for the Revitalising Central Dandenong Transit City Project
- $11.6 million over four years to develop the Frankston city centre to focus on Port Phillip Bay
- $2.7 million for the redevelopment of Ringwood
- $1.2 million for Geelong to make the most of its waterfront
- $1.5 million for Footscray for urban improvements
- $0.3 million for Ballarat to create more activity around the train station
- $4.3 million over the next four years for the overall improvement of Bendigo, Box Hill, Broadmeadows, Epping, Latrobe Warragul, Sydenham and Werribee.
