Project Outcomes

Purpose
The purpose of the Transit Cities & South Eastern Metropolitan Triple Bottom Line Study is to establish a monitoring regime for Transit Cities and set benchmarks for activity centres in the south east region of metropolitan Melbourne.

Status Report

  • Baseline indicators have been established and the final report has been completed.
  • The project has involved consultation with major stakeholders, regarding the study methodology.


    Project Priority
    This project is delivering on the following priority initiatives included in the Melbourne 2030 five year Implementation Program:
  • Initiative 1.1.2 – Work with local government to prepare structure plans that provide for growth and change at Principal and Major Activity Centres in terms of development, land use, higher density housing, roads and public transport, services and community infrastructure.
  • Initiative 1.1.3 – Implement demonstration projects that involve government and the community, such as railway stations, bus interchanges, car parking and land assembly at Principal Activity Centres including the metropolitan Transit Cities of Dandenong, Frankston, Ringwood, Box Hill, Epping, Broadmeadows, Footscray, Werribee and Sydenham.

    Project Outcomes
  • Development of benchmarks for both Transit Cities and activity centres, which will enable monitoring of the progress of Transit Cities over time.
  • Development of benchmarks which can be applied to structure planning for metropolitan activity centres.

  • A range of performance measures have been developed, which will be periodically reviewed and assessed for the Transit Cities, in consultation with key stakeholders.
