Flora and Fauna Research Permits

In Victoria, authorisation may be given under the Wildlife Act 1975 and the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 to acquire and utilise a range of flora and fauna for bona fide research purposes.

It should be noted that some research proposals may first require Ethics Committee approval to ensure consistency with the objectives of the Wildlife Act 1975, the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 and any other relevant legislation.

Authorisations may also be given under the National Parks Act 1975 for research on flora, fauna, soil, water and invertebrates.

Animal Welfare

You must also comply with all requirements of the relevant Code of Practice, administered by the Bureau of Animal Welfare (Department of Primary Industries).
