Bush Guardians
Initiatives Home
Bush Guardians is a volunteer, community based small grants program that commenced in 2007/2008.
The program aims to protect threatened flora and fauna from the threats of weeds and pests on specified public land parcels located across the State of Victoria by engaging community groups to propose, manage and undertake on ground works.
Bush Guardians also aims to attract, assist and acknowledge volunteer community groups that work in partnership with State or local governments on public land reserves.
The objectives of the Program are to:
- Remove or reduce the impact of weeds and pests threatening key flora and fauna species and protect known high value biodiversity values on public land
- Encourage and facilitate the engagement of community based organisations in reducing threats to key biodiversity values on selected public land parcels
- Raise community awareness of the impact of weeds and pests on threatened flora and fauna, and encourage volunteer groups and committees of management to participate in reducing these threats.
In collaboration with DSE, this program empowers volunteer community groups to find solutions, provide practical hands on management and a way forward in tackling land based weeds and pests for long term environmental benefits and, where practical, to align with other government agency programs.
The 2009/2010 application form and guidelines are available below. The closing date for 2009/2010 applications is 30 November 2009.
