Setting Priorities for Invasive Species Management on Public Land
Initiatives Home
This project began in 2007 and will undertake a strategic approach to pest management on public land through improved coordination and integration of planning and onground activities between relevant project partners.
The project will be based on the biosecurity approach incorporating asset based protection principles. It will enable public land managers to adopt a successful operational model such as the interagency Guidelines and Procedures for Managing the Environmental Impacts of Weeds to address risks posed by pests.
Five regional 'integrated landscape scale projects' will be established during 2008-2009 to demonstrate an integrated approach to pest management through the protection of high value assets. Key aspects of this project include:
- Identifying key regional biodiversity assets as a basis for selecting each of the regional project sites
- Involving other agencies/organisations
- Community participation
