Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act - Controls over the handling of listed fish
Sections 52 and 53 of the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 provide for controls over the taking, trading and keeping of fish that are members of taxa or communities of flora and fauna included on the Threatened List.
The controls mean that authorisation under the FFG Act is required to catch, possess, keep or sell listed fish. In most cases, authorisation is provided by Governor in Council Orders which allow activities such as recreational fishing or aquaculture to continue legally without the need for each angler or aquaculturist to obtain a separate permit. However, authorisation may be conditional on the angler or aquaculturist holding a current licence under the Fisheries Act 1995 for the activity they wish to undertake.
