Pest Animals
| Pest or invasive animals can pose a serious threat to biodiversity and primary production. They contribute to the loss of native animals and can significantly disturb native vegetation. The Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 declares certain species to be established pest animals in Victoria. These include foxes, rabbits, feral pigs, feral goats and wild dogs. The Department of Sustainability and Environment runs a number of projects to control pest animals on public land - for more detail see our list of initiatives. We also support the management of pest animals at the landscape scale through Good Neighbour projects, which acknowledge that these pests move freely between public and private land and so require all land managers to work together. To import, keep or sell a pest animal you must apply for a pest animal permit - but bear in mind that some exotic animals, particularly reptiles and amphibians, are illegal to import, keep, breed and trade in Victora |  Fox in Glenelg Captured by remote camera |
