The taskforce recommended that the Victorian Government contribute through the following principal action areas:
  • strengthening investment in Landcare
  • supporting Landcare volunteers
  • helping people manage land.
The key objectives were:
  • improve and coordinate departmental services
  • build on significant partnerships with non-government organisations and industry
  • support and increase the broad-based volunteer Landcare movement
  • increase the capability of land managers to develop and implement sustainable natural resource management activities.

The strategy is led by a State Landcare Coordination Team comprising the Department of Sustainability and Environment, a State Landcare Coordinator and ten Regional Landcare Coordinators employed by the Catchment Management Authorities. This central team provides strategic leadership and support for Landcare in Victoria.

Through this initiative each Catchment Management Authority has developed a Regional Landcare Support Strategy in partnership with the community to provide guidance for the future of landcare in that region.

An evaluation of actions to date against the Victorian Action Plan for Second Generation Landcare was completed in 2006 for the years 2002-06.
