Catchment Management Authorities - Board members - Expressions of Interest
About Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs)
CMAs are established under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 and are accountable to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings MLC and to the Minister for Water, The Hon. Tim Holding MP under the Water Act 1989.
CMAs play an important role in the sustainable management of Victorian land and water resources by engaging industry and the community. CMAs co-ordinate substantial resources on behalf of government to deal with natural resource management issues such as salinity, water quality, waterways, pest plants and animals, biodiversity and land management.
CMA Boards
CMA boards are responsible for strategic planning, deciding the policies and managing the affairs of the CMA, through good organisational governance and performance monitoring.
The boards of each CMA must consist of persons with experience and knowledge of one or more of:
- strategic or business planning
- financial management
- land management
- water resources management and the water industry
- waterway management
- environment or natural resources management
- primary industry.
CMA boards consist of a chairperson and between five and eight other members appointed for up to four years. Appointees may be entitled to receive remuneration for their service.
Current members of CMAs may re-apply for appointment.
This application is only for appointment as a board member. The opportunity to express an interest in appointment as a CMA chairperson has already closed. If you applied for appointment as chairperson in October or November 2008, and wish also to apply as a board member, you must also submit an application for a member position on a CMA board. However, you do not need to complete and attach the ‘Appointee’s Declaration’ form. This form has already been completed and submitted with your expression of interest in appointment as a chairperson, and will be used for this expression of interest for appointment as a member only.
Encouraging diversity
The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring the diversity of boards represent the diversity of our communities. Women, indigenous persons, people with a disability, young persons and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Persons from metropolitan and regional urban areas, as well as rural areas, are also encouraged to apply.
