Policy Framework
The management of State forest is informed by a comprehensive array of policies, the key elements of which are:
| Our Forests, Our Future The Victorian Government's policy statement, released in 2002 to ensure the sustainable future of Victoria's native forests and the timber industry communities they support. | |
| Thinning Policy This document provides direction on the forest management principles used, and the outcomes sought, by the Victorian Government when assessing any proposal to undertake thinning operations at the stand or landscape level. | |
| Sustainability Charter for Victoria's State Forests The Sustainability Charter sets the direction for sustainable forest management in Victoria. It commits the Department of Sustainability and Environment and VicForests, a State-owned business responsible for the commercial harvesting and sale of timber from State forests, to support the objectives set out in the Charter. | |
| Environmental Policy for Victoria's State Forests A statement of management objectives from the Sustainability Charter that are consistent with sustainable forest management and ecological sustainable development principles. The environmental policy for key activities on State forests will be achieved through certification to ISO 14001 requirements. |
