Management Framework

The Department of Sustainability and Environment uses a range of management tools to balance the many uses and values of Victoria's forests, including sustainable timber and water production, biodiversity conservation, recreation and tourism. These tools ensure compliance with Victoria's policy and legislation framework.

Environmental Management System
A system of policies, objectives, controls and reporting mechanisms that ensures that forest and fire operational activities comply with the law and minimise negative environmental impacts.

Code of Practice for Timber Production
A key instrument for regulating commercial timber production in both public and private forests and plantations in Victoria.

Management Procedures for Timber Harvesting Operations and Associated Activities in Victoria's State Forests
These procedures specify environmental and operational requirements additional to the requirements of the Code of Practice for Timber Production.
