Mildura - Forest Management Plan

The Forest Management Plan for the floodplain State forests of the Mildura forest management area establishes management principles and strategies for the sustainable use and care of the floodplain State forests.

The floodplain forests of the Mildura Forest Management Area occupy the southern bank of the Murray River between Swan Hill and the Victorian-South Australian border. This Plan applies to State forest, which covers approximately 39,000 hectares of the planning area, over 37% of public land. These forests contain important cultural sites and a diverse range of environmental values.

The Plan aims to balance the various uses and values of State forest, provide an environment where forest ecosystems are maintained or enhanced, water supplies and environmental and cultural values are protected, and timber production, recreation and other forest uses can continue to benefit local communities.

The Plan has been prepared in accordance with the Victorian Government’s commitment to sustainable forest management and improved stewardship of public land.

The Plan is to apply for ten years unless a substantial change of circumstances warrants a review before then. However, the Plan is designed to be dynamic and responsive to new information, as it becomes available.

Mildura Forest Explorer - for the floodplain forests of the Mildura forest management area

The second instalment in DSE's Forest Explorer Series, the Mildura Forest Explorer is soon to be completed. This Forest Explorer has been specifically created to compliment the Mildura Forest Management Plan. Where possible, the same types of forest data presented in the Plan have been included on the CD. The Mildura Forest Explorer allows users to create their own maps, and to explore some of the information available on forests across Victoria, including forest stand information (SFRImap), historical sites, threatened flora and fauna, forest management zones ...and more.
