Cobboboonee National Park and Forest Park boundaries

Community Consultation

Over the coming months DSE will guide a process that will gather information from technical and scientific sources, stakeholders and the broader community about the values of the Cobboboonee forest. The consultation process will provide feedback to the Minister of Water, Environment, and Climate Change so he can make a decision about the boundaries. A community panel will work with DSE to ensure the views of the community and other stakeholders are heard and accurately reflected to the Minister.

The community consultation process conducted by the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Parks Victoria over the last six months has concluded. It has collected information on proposed Cobboboonee national park and forest park boundaries through written submissions, focused group discussions and comment on the draft consultation report.

DSE and Parks Victoria thank the community and stakeholders for their input and expertise. Information they have contributed including the report on consultation is now being considered by government before a decision is made.

The commitment to establish a national park and forest park in the area of the Cobboboonee State Forest remains a priority for the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

It is expected that the Minister will make an announcement about the boundaries early in the new year. The Minister hopes to personally visit the area to make the announcement as promised during his visit to the Cobboboonee forest in September.
