Fire Operations Plans - Planned Burns for 2009-2012
Final Fire Operations Plans for 2009-2012 are now available.

The Fire Operations Plans were developed through a public consultation process that was held in August 2009. Comments contributed during the annual consultation period were used to help shape the final Fire Operations Plans

Note: In October 2008 DSE established 5 new fire management areas across Victoria, following similar boundaries to the previous regions. Please use the following map to identify your fire Area and District:

Quick Guide to Using the Interactive Map
- Click on the 'find location' tab above the map, select 'place name', type a specific location then click 'OK'
- Use the 'zoom in' and 'zoom out' and 'pan' functions to navigate to your local area on the map.
- The name of each DSE fire district and its border appear in red - view office contacts for every DSE fire district.
- View different information by adding or subtracting 'Layers' using the 'Layers' tab.

How would you find our about burns that are planned for 2009 near the town of Olinda?
- Open the interactive map
- Click ‘Find Location’ tab at top left of screen. Select ‘Place Name’ search in right hand margin. Type in ‘Olinda’ and click ‘OK’. Choose best suggestion from the list of places provided that include the name 'Olinda'. The map will zoom in and centre Olinda in the middle of the screen.
- Click ‘Legend’ and legend details appear in the right hand margin. Scroll down to see the description for purple areas - burns planned for 2009-2012; Year 1 (darkest purple), Year 2 and Year 3 (lightest purple)
- To view details about any burn on the map, click on the ‘Identify all visible layers’ button (6th symbol from left) then click on a purple burn area on the map. A strip of info appears to the right of the map including location of the burn, name, size in hectares, year and season the burn is planned for and the main purpose of the burn (eg. fuel reduction). Immediately around Olinda there are two burns planned for 2009 and three burns planned for 2010.
- To see burns that have already occurred, click ‘Layers’ tab. On right hand side, click in the box beside ‘fire history’ then click ‘Refresh Map’. Grey areas appear on the map - these are past bushfires and planned burns that have been carried out. Each shaded area has a label that states if it was a burn or a fire.
- See other burns for this district by panning across the map (use the hand symbol - third from the left) or by zooming out (magnifying glass symbol - second from left).
- Please note - burns will only be visible if the map scale is less than 1:500,000. If you zoom out too far, you can no longer see burns.
