![]() | The Code of Practice for Fire Management on Public Land ('the Code') provides the framework for the integrated management of fire and fire related activities on public land in Victoria. The first Code document was developed in 1995. It was the first of its kind nationally and was described as "...demonstrating industry best practice..." (Victorian Auditor General, Audit Report Fire Prevention & Preparedness, 2003).
The Code gives a commitment that it will be reviewed within 10 years of its approval. The Department of Sustainability and Environment completed a review of the first Code in 2005 and the revision was released in 2006.
The revised Code sets out a more frequent and stringent audit process for compliance with improved Performance Indicators. Previous audits can be found at Audits of Compliance with the Code of Practice for Fire Management on Public Land.
