Over the past three decades Victoria has developed a formidable aerial fire fighting capability, in response to the need to service a vast area of often inaccessible and rugged country. The fleet of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters represents one of the most comprehensive and cost effective fire fighting collections in the world. And the fleet delivers with maximum efficiency due to the excellent management structure which guides it.

Utilising a network of fixed bases and mobile support equipment, fixed wing aircraft and helicopters are available for aerial delivery of fire retardant slurries, foam and water. The latest technology is employed to ensure effective load distribution. Helicopters are also used with great effect for crew transport, and for the delivery of specially trained fire fighters to remote areas. The whole thrust of aerial fire fighting revolves around rapid response aimed at early wildfire containment. When allied to DSE's remote sensing capabilities, the aerial delivery systems ensure that early action is directed at critical fire areas rapidly and effectively.
