The Victorian Coastal Acid Sulfate Soils (CASS) Strategy released
Victoria's CASS strategy aims to protect the environment, humans and infrastructure from the harmful effects which can occur if CASS is disturbed. The emphasis of the strategy is on avoiding the disturbance of CASS.
The strategy explains why CASS is a management issue in Victoria and promotes a risk identification and assessment process. It aims to build the capacity of land owners and land and water managers to identify areas where disturbance of CASS is best avoided.

New team working for Victoria's coast
Members and Chairs were recently appointed to Victoria's three Regional Coastal Boards (Gippsland, Central, and Western) following a state-wide expression of interest process. The Chair of each Board was also appointed to the Victorian Coastal Council.
The Boards are statutory bodies established under the Coastal Management Act1995 and provide advice to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change on regional coastal matters.
The boards will play an integral role in the delivery of key actions in the 2008 Victorian Coastal Strategy.
Future Coasts - launch of topographic digital elevation modelling (DEM) data
The Future Coasts Program represents a multi-million dollar investment by the Victorian Government into climate change adaptation on the coast. The program will provide detailed mapping of the Victorian coastline that will act as a basis for assessing the vulnerability of coastal areas to the impacts of sea level rise.
As part of Future Coasts, the Department of Sustainability and Environment is collecting high resolution digital elevation model (DEM) data for both sea depth and elevation on land - within a range of 20 metres below and 10 metres above sea level.
For more information or to find out how to download the topographic DEM data, visit the Future Coasts webpage.
