Rivers

Rivers and streams are flowing waterways which are subject to a one-way flow downstream. They provide vital water for our homes, farms, towns and cities and are major drawcards for recreation and tourism. For many people, rivers have a special place in their memories and their sense of ‘belonging’.

Rivers and streams provide essential habitat for many plants and animals, many of which, are threatened or endangered. The Rivers and Streams Chapter in Victoria’s Biodiversity Strategy details the approach to river management in Victoria.
