Ecosystem services

Victoria's ecosystems provide us with important goods and services that support our lives and lifestyles.

Ecosystem services include the maintenance of air and water quality, the pollination of flowering plants including food crops, and regulation of the climate.

They also include the cultural and spiritual benefits we gain from the natural environment.

An environment rich in diversity and complexity will help us to continue to maintain:

  • sustainable economic activity
  • our health and wellbeing
  • the ability for plants and animals to adapt to change.
